Step 1 — White balance first. J3 is calibrated for a warm-neutral starting point — 5,300-5,700K for most outdoor conditions. The fade quality reads most naturally on a warm foundation. On cool white balance, the muted colour of J3 can read as flat rather than softly faded.

Step 2 — Apply J3 Soft Fade. The organic fade, lifted black point, muted colour, and film grain apply simultaneously.

Step 3 — Adjust Exposure and White Balance per photo. J3 handles the vintage fade identity. These two adjustments handle the per-photo differences.

For bright outdoor photography: add Contrast +8 to +10 after applying if the result reads flat rather than softly faded. J3's reduced contrast is calibrated for moderate lighting — in very bright conditions the fade can appear as flatness rather than softness.
