Step 1 — White balance first. N1 assumes a neutral starting point — 5,000-5,400K for outdoor daylight. The clean modern character reads most naturally on a neutral-warm foundation.

Step 2 — Apply N1 Clean Modern. The vibrant modern colour, clean contrast, and film grain apply simultaneously.

Step 3 — Adjust Exposure and White Balance per photo. N1 handles the modern vibrant identity.

Portrait photography with N1: N1 is calibrated for outdoor and lifestyle photography rather than close-up portrait work. Reduce to 80% strength for portraits and check Orange Saturation after applying — reduce by -3 to -5 if skin reads too vivid.

On phone photos: 78-80% strength. Phone cameras add computational vibrancy — N1 on top can read heavy without the reduction.

What is the difference between N1 and the California Archive? The California Archive has warm outdoor color philosophy. N1 is the boldest, most vibrant of the New Modern Archive presets with a modern clean direction rather than warm film direction. California for warm film outdoor travel, N1 for bold modern lifestyle content.

Is N1 suitable for portrait photography? N1 is primarily calibrated for outdoor lifestyle and travel. For portrait work where natural skin rendering matters, the Glow Portrait Archive or Essence Archive are more appropriate.
