THE X ARCHIVE — 6 PRESETS, ONE EXPRESSIVE PHILOSOPHY
The X Archive is built around dramatic black and white photography — not the refined, silver-toned monochrome of fine art portraiture, but the bold, expressive tonal character of street photography, documentary work, and editorial portraiture that wants to feel powerful.
High contrast tonal separation. Deep shadows with visible texture. Bright highlights that hold detail. Expressive grain that adds character rather than noise. A visual weight that makes the viewer look twice.
Six presets covering the full range of dramatic monochrome expression — from the clean bold foundation to cool urban, warm darkroom tone, and the raw grain-forward character of pushed film. They work together, look related, and give you the right tool for every dramatic black and white scenario.
Apply in one click. Fine-tune exposure. Done.
The 6 X Black & White Film Presets
X1 — Dramatic Base The foundation of the collection. Strong tonal separation, clean blacks and whites, expressive contrast. The most versatile dramatic B&W preset — works across street photography, portraits, and documentary work. Start here.
X2 — Deep Shadow Deeper shadows and stronger contrast than X1. The darkest tonal character in the collection outside of X6. Best for scenes with strong directional light where maximum shadow depth serves the composition.
X3 — High Key Dramatic Bright overall with strong contrast — clean, bright highlights and controlled deep shadows. Best for high-key portrait work with dramatic light, architectural photography, and editorial content where the interplay of bright and dark is the subject.
X4 — Cool Urban Slightly cool-toned with strong contrast. A cold, modern quality that suits street photography and architecture. The most urban and contemporary preset in the collection — less warm than X1/X2, more angular and precise.
X5 — Warm Darkroom Classic darkroom warmth with dramatic contrast. A silver-brown quality that references gelatin silver prints on warm-tone paper. The most traditional B&W look in the collection — timeless and refined while maintaining the expressive tonal range of the X Archive.
X6 — Grain Forward Maximum grain character. Raw, textured, and expressive. Best for street photography and documentary work where the grain is deliberately part of the visual statement. The boldest and most characterful preset in the collection.
X Archive vs Monochromatic Archive — which do you need?
Both collections are black and white. The difference is intention and character.
The Monochromatic Archive is clean, refined, silver-toned monochrome. Balanced tonal range, subtle grain, timeless quality. Best for portrait, fine art, and lifestyle photography where the B&W enhances rather than defines.
The X Archive is dramatic, expressive, bold monochrome. High contrast, pronounced grain, visual weight. Best for street photography, documentary work, and editorial portraiture where the B&W is a visual statement.
Clean and refined — Monochromatic Archive. Bold and expressive — X Archive.
Both are included in the Studio Archive.
Most photographers pay $10 per preset. You pay $4.50.
Six dramatic B&W presets for less than the price of three individual presets.
Want both B&W collections plus everything else?
The Studio Archive contains every preset collection we make — including both the X Archive and the Monochromatic Archive — 130+ presets for $89. That is $0.68 per preset.
