What is WeTransfer?
Sharing digital files may seem like a difficult job at times but with an application like WeTransfer this job becomes way easier. WeTransfer is an internet based computer file transfer service founded in 2009 in Amsterdam by Bas Beerens, Rinke Visser and Nalden.
What makes WeTransfer useful?
Have you ever tried to email someone a file and saw the message that “the file is too large”? Well, this happens a lot as e-mails mostly have a limit of a few MBs. However, with WeTransfer you can share up to 2GB for free without going through those messy registrations.
How does WeTransfer work?
WeTransfer works very simple and almost the same as your regular e-mail client. You only have to drag and drop the files you want to send.
All you need to do is:
Go to wetransfer.com.
Add your files.
Enter your e-mail and recipient email.
Click transfer. You can also add a message if you like. The recipient will receive the email with the link from which they can download the file to their computers.
Security of WeTransfer
File transferring is secured through WeTransfer as they claim that only you and the recipient can see the files. Also the files are deleted automatically from their servers after seven days, making it even more secure.
WeTransfer vs. WeTransfer Pro
As we have discussed before that you can share files with up to 2GB of data with no cost, however, WeTransfer also offers premium services called WeTransfer Pro.
WeTransfer Pro costs €12 per month and comes with more data sharing, more security features. With WeTransfer Pro you can share up to 20 GB of files at a time, which is a lot of files you can send!
WeTransfer Pro also lets you decide for how long you want the files to stay on their servers. By default the files are stored for 4 weeks, but you can change it if you want to store it for a longer period of time. The maximum space you can save on the servers of WeTransfer is 1TB.
You can set passwords to protect your files with WeTransfer Pro, means that only the link you receive is not enough to see the files. So if you have entered the wrong email address with those confidential files, they can’t be downloaded without the password.
WeTransfer Pro lets you customize the URL that you are sharing, so you can urlofmychoice.wetransfer.com, which is pretty cool to connect even more with your customers. You can also change the background and turn it to your digital marketing service.
